Future Fins P4 Vapor Core Thruster Set
The Future Fins P4 Vapor Core is built for surfers who want carbon-level performance without sacrificing the lively, pivot-friendly feel of the P4 template. The result is a thruster set that generates speed out of nothing, holds through a turn, and releases right when you want it to.
Future Fins was founded in 1996 by the Longo brothers, who brought an aerospace fabrication background to surf fin design. That engineering rigor is visible in every Vapor Core fin: a carbon fiber outer shell over a lightweight core, engineered to keep swing weight low so the board responds faster underfoot.
Vapor Core Construction
Vapor Core is Future Fins' lightweight performance construction. A woven carbon fiber skin wraps the fin, providing a stiff, responsive shell that transfers energy directly into drive and release. The carbon layup is visible in the woven texture and gives the fin exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. The result is a fin that feels alive in the water rather than heavy or sluggish.
P4 Template
The P4 template is designed for smaller, mushier surf where generating your own speed is the priority. It features a lower aspect ratio and a swept outline that favors pivot over pure drive, making it ideal when the wave face is not providing much push. The template suits surfers who like to work the board through turns rather than lock in and drive.
Futures Fin System Compatibility
These fins install directly into any Futures Fins box system using the proprietary tab base. The single-tab design locks the fin in firmly without tools, and the base geometry is engineered to transfer flex through the entire fin rather than just the tip. Compatible with any board glassed with Futures boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What makes the Vapor Core construction different from standard fiberglass fins?
- Vapor Core fins use a woven carbon fiber outer shell over a lightweight core. Carbon is stiffer and lighter than fiberglass, which reduces swing weight and improves response time. The fin transfers energy more directly, giving you faster drive out of turns and sharper rail-to-rail feel.
- What kind of waves is the P4 template best for?
- The P4 template is designed for smaller, softer surf. Its lower aspect ratio and swept outline favor pivot and speed generation on mushier waves where you need to create your own momentum rather than relying on wave power. It is a versatile small-wave fin.
- Are these fins compatible with my board?
- Yes, provided your board is glassed with Futures fin boxes. The P4 Vapor Core uses the Futures single-tab base, which installs tool-free into any board with Futures-compatible boxes. They are not compatible with FCS or other systems without an adapter.
- What is included in the set?
- The listing is for a complete thruster set of three fins: two side fins and one center fin, all in the P4 Vapor Core construction.
- Who founded Future Fins and what is their background?
- Future Fins was founded in 1996 by the Longo brothers, who had a background in aerospace fabrication and hydrogen fuel cell research. They applied that engineering expertise to surf fin design, which is why Future Fins are known for their precision construction and consistent performance.
- Can I buy these fins in store at Island Water Sports?
- Yes. Island Water Sports carries Future Fins in South Florida in store and online. You can also call 954-427-4929 to check stock or ask for a recommendation.
- How do Futures fins install and do I need tools?
- Futures fins use a single-tab base that clicks into the fin box and locks with the included fin screw. No special tools are needed beyond a fin key or small flathead screwdriver for the set screw. Installation takes seconds once you are familiar with the system.
