Performance Glass Construction Built for Serious Longboarding

The FCS 2 Thomas Longboard Fin is machine cut from layers of solid fiberglass using FCS's Performance Glass (PG) process. This construction produces a fin that is genuinely stiff throughout the foil, maintaining consistent flex integrity under heavy force and in demanding surf conditions. That predictability is exactly why PG is the material of choice for pro-level surfers who need a fin they can trust when they push hard off the tail or hang five on the nose.

Shaped with Thomas Bexon

The Thomas fin was developed in collaboration with Thomas Bexon, one of the most respected names in modern longboarding. The template draws its inspiration from the height of Australian old mal surfing in the mid-1960s, translating classic outline geometry into a fin that performs in contemporary surf. The result is a shape that delivers the right amount of drive and release for drawn-out turns, with enough hold to keep the board locked in position during nose rides.

In Bexon's own words: "I have tried a lot of fins and this is the best combination of every element in one fin. A touch of flex in the tip but not too much so it doesn't get the doughy feeling that really flexible fins can give at times."

That tip flex comment is worth unpacking. Too much tip flex in a longboard fin creates a mushy, indistinct feel when you load the tail for a turn. The Thomas template is calibrated to give just enough tip response to feel lively without sacrificing the stiffness that makes a full-length nose ride possible.

FCS II Tool-Less System

The FCS 2 Thomas mounts on the FCS II system, which eliminates the fin key and plate-and-screw setup that traditional fin boxes require. Installation and removal take seconds. The system also allows you to adjust fin position in the box while you are in the water, so you can dial in rake and pivot response between sets without paddling in.

The FCS II base is designed to fit most existing longboard boxes, so no new box installation is required on most boards already set up for a single fin.

Who This Fin Is For

The Thomas fin suits longboarders who prioritize cross-stepping and nose riding but still want a fin that can generate drive and release through a carving turn. The stiff PG construction and mid-60s-inspired template make it particularly effective on traditional longboards and modern mals where single-fin feel and predictability matter more than loose pivot. It is the fin Bexon rides, and it reflects his approach: classic form, refined for real performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the FCS II system and how does it work?
FCS II is a tool-less fin system. The fin clicks directly into a compatible box with no fin key, plate, or screw required. Installation and removal take seconds, and you can adjust fin position in the box mid-surf to change the feel between sets.
What makes Performance Glass different from other fin materials?
Performance Glass (PG) fins are machine cut from layers of solid fiberglass. The construction is stiff and maintains consistent flex integrity under heavy force. That predictability is why PG is widely used by pro-level surfers who need reliable response in demanding conditions.
Does the FCS 2 Thomas fin fit my existing longboard box?
The FCS II base is designed to fit most existing longboard boxes. No new box installation is required on boards already equipped for a standard single fin setup.
What kind of longboarding is the Thomas fin designed for?
The Thomas template is built for surfers who prioritize nose riding and cross-stepping but still want drive and release through carving turns. The mid-60s Australian old mal inspiration gives it classic hold and pivot feel, calibrated by Thomas Bexon for modern performance.
Is the FCS 2 Thomas fin a good choice for nose riding?
Yes. The template was specifically designed to provide plenty of hold for nose rides along with enough drive and release for turns. Thomas Bexon, who co-designed the fin, describes the tip flex as enough to feel lively without the doughy feel that comes from overly flexible fins.
Do I need a fin key to install or remove the FCS 2 Thomas fin?
No. The FCS II system requires no fin key and no plate-and-screw hardware. The fin inserts and releases in seconds with no tools.
Where can I buy the FCS 2 Thomas Longboard Fin?
The FCS 2 Thomas Longboard Fin is available in store and online at Island Water Sports in South Florida.
