Built for SUP. Engineered to Stay Out of the Way.
The Dakine Coiled Calf SUP Leash is purpose-built for stand-up paddleboarding, where a trailing straight leash becomes a constant foot hazard. Dakine's straight-coil-straight design lifts the cord off the water between the cuff and the board, eliminating drag and keeping the line clear of your feet on every stroke. With more than 35 years building and refining surf leashes, Dakine put that experience directly into this SUP-specific design.
Dura-Cord Construction
The coiled section uses Dakine's urethane Dura-Cord, selected for maximum tensile strength and UV resistance. Urethane maintains its elasticity and returns to coiled form even after repeated stretching, so the leash stays tidy across a full session. The cord is matched to the demands of a paddleboard, which carries significantly more mass than a shortboard and requires a leash that can absorb the shock load of a wipeout without snapping or permanently extending.
Molded Neoprene Cuff and Opti-Flex Ends
The calf cuff is molded neoprene for a cushioned, secure fit against the leg. A Posi-Lock hook-and-loop closure holds the cuff in place without digging in during an extended paddle. The redesigned Opti-Flex molded leash ends flex under load instead of cracking, extending the service life of the leash at its two most stress-prone connection points. A 1-inch (25 mm) detachable rail saver sits at the board end, protecting the tail rail from leash string cuts.
Marine-Grade Hardware Throughout
Both swivel points use 100% marine-grade stainless steel, which resists saltwater corrosion across seasons of use. The Easy Clip system at the rail saver end allows quick attachment and detachment from the board's leash plug without tools. All connection hardware is designed to release cleanly in an emergency while remaining secure under normal paddling and wipeout loads.
SUP Leash Attachment: Calf vs. Ankle
A calf attachment sits higher on the leg than an ankle leash, which keeps the coil further from the foot and reduces the chance of stepping on the cord during stance adjustments. Paddlers who cross-step or frequently move their feet on longer boards often prefer calf attachment for this reason. The tradeoff is a marginally longer effective leash length from the attachment point to the board.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Dakine SUP Coiled Calf Leash designed for?
- It is designed specifically for stand-up paddleboarding. The straight-coil-straight cord stays lifted off the water to reduce drag and keeps the leash out from underfoot, unlike a straight surf leash.
- What does the straight-coil-straight design do?
- The cord runs straight from the cuff to the coil section, then straight again from the coil to the board. This keeps the coiled section suspended above the water surface, cutting drag and preventing the cord from tangling around your feet.
- Why choose a calf leash over an ankle leash for SUP?
- A calf attachment sits higher on the leg, moving the coil further away from the foot. This reduces the chance of stepping on the leash during footwork or stance changes on the board, which is common in SUP paddling.
- What hardware does the Dakine Coiled Calf SUP Leash use?
- It uses 100% marine-grade stainless steel swivels at both connection points for corrosion resistance, redesigned Opti-Flex molded leash ends for durability, and a 1-inch detachable rail saver at the board end to protect the tail rail.
- What is the Posi-Lock closure on the cuff?
- Posi-Lock is Dakine's hook-and-loop closure system on the molded neoprene calf cuff. It is designed to hold securely during a wipeout while remaining comfortable against the leg during extended paddling sessions.
- What is Easy Clip compatibility?
- Easy Clip refers to the quick-attach system at the rail saver end of the leash. It allows the leash to connect and disconnect from the board's leash plug quickly without needing to thread a string loop, and is designed to release cleanly in an emergency.
- Is the Dakine Coiled Calf SUP Leash available at Island Water Sports?
- Yes, it is available in store and online at Island Water Sports. You can reach us at 954-427-4929 for questions.
