Gabriel Medina's Signature Performer Tri-Fin Set
Gabriel Medina built three WSL World Championship titles on the Performer template. For the GM PC AirCore, he returns to that trusted foundation and takes it further -- adding a custom flex pattern, AirCore construction, and a downsized centre fin tuned specifically for speed, flow, and explosive tail release. The result is a set that performs in every condition from punchy beach breaks to long, walling point breaks.
PC AirCore Construction
AirCore technology places an internal hollow core inside the fin, positioning the flex and response characteristics precisely between standard PC (Performance Core) and PC Carbon. The outcome is a flex pattern that drives powerfully through the bottom of a turn, then releases energy at the top with a snappy, explosive feel. This construction is lighter than solid PC and adds a liveliness that rewards an aggressive, committed surfing style.
PC (Performance Core) fibre wraps the AirCore shell, delivering the consistent durability and controlled flex that FCS II fins are known for. The material combination produces a reliable feel across sessions without the stiffness that can mute feedback in slower surf.
Performer Template and Signature Flex
The Performer template is one of the most versatile templates in the FCS II lineup. Its balanced outline, moderate rake, and smooth foil generate drive and hold through carves while still allowing a surfer to pivot and redirect with minimal effort. Medina's signature GM flex pattern is calibrated specifically around his high-performance style: maximum engagement on the rail through the turn, then a fast, clean release at the tail.
The downsized centre fin is a defining feature of this set. A smaller centre fin reduces drag and loosens the tail, making it faster to redirect between turns and easier to generate speed on flatter wave sections. The two side fins carry enough base to maintain hold and projection, keeping the tri-fin configuration honest even in more powerful surf.
Inside Foil Technology (IFT)
IFT refers to the concaved inner face machined into each fin. Rather than a flat inside surface, the concave creates a curved foil profile that channels water flow more efficiently across the face of the fin. This produces increased lift and more direct drive through the bottom turn, translating paddle power into forward speed and allowing the surfer to set a rail higher and hold it longer before releasing.
FCS II Fin System Compatibility
This set is designed for the FCS II toolless fin system. Fins click securely into FCS II boxes without keys or screws, making swaps on the beach fast and straightforward. The FCS II system also accepts fins using the FCS Fusion plug adaptor, covering a wide range of board setups.
Wave Range and Board Compatibility
FCS specifies this set as recommended for all board types, making it a practical choice whether the board is a shortboard, step-up, or hybrid. The Performer template's adaptability means the fins do not require a specific rocker or concave to perform well. They are equally at home in punchy, hollow beach break as in longer, more predictable point surf where drive and arc matter more than rapid pivoting.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is AirCore technology in FCS II fins?
- AirCore technology uses an internal hollow core inside the fin body. This places the flex characteristics between standard PC and PC Carbon constructions, producing a lighter fin with a lively, responsive feel that drives powerfully through turns and releases energy explosively at the tail.
- What is Inside Foil Technology (IFT)?
- IFT is a concaved inner face on each fin. The concave creates a curved foil profile that channels water flow more efficiently across the fin face, increasing lift and forward drive through the bottom turn.
- What makes the GM Performer different from the standard Performer template?
- The GM Performer adds Gabriel Medina's signature custom flex pattern and a downsized centre fin. The AirCore construction is specific to this signature set and is not present in the standard Performer lineup. These changes prioritise speed, flow, and rapid tail release over pure hold.
- Will these fins fit my board?
- Yes, provided your board has FCS II fin boxes. The FCS II system is toolless and accepts these fins directly. Boards with the original FCS plug system can use FCS Fusion adapters. FCS recommends this set for all board types.
- What wave conditions suit the FCS II GM PC AirCore Performer set?
- FCS specifies a wide range of conditions from beach breaks to point breaks. The Performer template is celebrated for its adaptability, so it performs consistently whether surf is punchy and hollow or longer and more walling.
- What is included in the tri-fin set?
- The set includes three fins: two matched side fins and one centre fin. The centre fin is downsized relative to a standard Performer centre to reduce drag and loosen tail response.
- How does PC AirCore compare to PC Carbon in FCS II fins?
- PC Carbon is stiffer and suited to powerful, high-speed surfing where maximum drive is the priority. PC AirCore sits between standard PC and PC Carbon in the flex spectrum, offering a livelier, more energetic feel with responsive drive and explosive release rather than stiff hold.
