The Lost Driver 3.0: Three Years of Pro-Level Refinement
The Lost Driver 3.0 is the result of three years of methodical, elite-driven evolution of the Driver 2.0, shaped by Matt "Mayhem" Biolos and dialed in with direct feedback from some of the best competitive surfers on the planet. Since the Driver 2.0 launched in 2019, the ...Lost team pushed relentlessly for an edge against the world's best. The Driver 3.0 is not simply an update to its predecessor, it is a fundamentally distinct design, tested and proven on the world's biggest stage before it ever reached the public.
The model was publicly unveiled as a squash tail during the 2022 Stab In The Dark contest with Jack Robinson, where it came within a razor-thin margin of a win. Through the remainder of 2022, Griffin Colapinto rode a refined version to two World Championship Tour victories, in Portugal and El Salvador. The Driver 3.0 Round Tail is replicated directly from the board Griffin used at that El Salvador event. Every top-tier surfer in the Lost program, from veterans like Kolohe Andino, Yago Dora, and Ian Crane to next-generation talents like Eli Hanniman, Crosby Cola, and Cole Houshmand, claimed this design as the best board in their quiver.
Design and Rocker: What Changed from the Driver 2.0
The core difference between the Driver 3.0 and its predecessor is in the tail rocker and the rear concave system. The Driver 3.0 carries slightly more tail rocker, paired with a deeper double-to-single concave running through the rear half of the board. That deeper concave generates significantly more lift under the back foot, which translates directly into additional speed through sections. The increased rail-line rocker that accompanies it creates more curve in the arc, enabling tighter-radius, more vertical turns in critical pockets.
The deck line in the tail is scooped out, with lower and boxier rails that follow the bottom curve and allow the rail to slice seamlessly into the water. The hip between the feet has been narrowed compared to the Driver 2.0, which tightens grip and adds stability in the outline at the moment of maximum pressure during turns.
Tail Options: Round Tail and Squash Tail
The Driver 3.0 is offered in both a round tail and a squash tail configuration, each serving a distinct performance intent. The round tail is fairly wide and forgiving under the rear foot, while the last few inches pull in to add confidence and hold during high-speed, high-pressure pocket surfing. The squash tail was the original Stab In The Dark version and delivers a slightly wider kick and more immediate pivot off the tail block. Use the variant selector on this page to choose your tail shape and fin configuration.
Forward Outline and Volume Distribution
To balance the added tail rocker, narrower hip, scooped deck, and hyper rail rocker, the Driver 3.0 carries more width in the forward outline and more volume in the forward foil. This forward volume serves two purposes: it increases paddle efficiency through added glide, and it creates a more responsive, front-foot-driven entry into turns. The board runs thicker along the stringer line for paddle power and drive, but the deck rises to a higher-angle vee shape that removes volume toward the rail and terminates in a moderately forgiving, round rail profile. The result is a board that feels lively and immediate off the front foot without sacrificing control at the rail.
Fin Configuration and Wave Range
The Driver 3.0 is designed as a thruster, the three-fin setup that underpins its drive-through-the-arc and vertical release characteristics. The fin placement and outline work in direct partnership with the double-to-single concave, channeling water flow off the tail for maximum drive. Select your preferred fin system using the variant selector on this page.
Wave range runs from punchy, fast beach breaks through quality overhead reef and point surf. The added volume in the forward foil means this board paddles and catches waves with authority, without sacrificing the snap and vertical capability demanded at the tour level. It is at home in the kinds of waves where tight pocket surfing matters most.
Who Is the Driver 3.0 For
The Driver 3.0 was built with and for elite competitive surfers, but the design carries enough foam and built-in speed to function as a high-performance daily driver for any advanced surfer. If you ride at a level where you can push a rocker and demand precise feedback at the rail, this board rewards that investment. It is not a beginner or intermediate board. It is a tool engineered for surfers who want to push the limits of what a shortboard can do in high-performance surf.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the Lost Driver 3.0 and the Driver 2.0?
- The Driver 3.0 carries more tail rocker and a deeper double-to-single concave through the rear half than the Driver 2.0. The deck line in the tail is scooped out with lower, boxier rails. The hip between the feet is narrower, and more volume has been added in the forward foil to compensate. The overall result is a board with more lift, more speed, and tighter turning radius, to the point that Mayhem considers it a fundamentally distinct design rather than a revision.
- What tail shape should I choose, round tail or squash tail?
- The round tail (Driver 3.0 Rnd) is replicated from Griffin Colapinto's winning board at the 2022 El Salvador WCT event. It offers a forgiving feel under the rear foot with confident hold in hard-pushing pocket surfing. The squash tail was the original Stab In The Dark version and provides a slightly wider tail block with more immediate pivot. Both are thruster setups. Select your preference and fin system using the variant selector on this page.
- Is the Lost Driver 3 good for beach break?
- Yes. The Driver 3.0 excels in the kinds of fast, punchy beach-break conditions where tight pocket surfing and vertical surfing matter most. The elevated tail rocker and deeper concave generate speed and lift in steep, hollow waves. The more generous forward volume also means it paddles well through lulls. It performs equally well on quality reef and point breaks.
- What skill level is the Lost Driver 3.0 designed for?
- The Driver 3.0 is an advanced to elite-level board. It was developed with and for World Championship Tour competitors and refined through direct feedback from surfers like Griffin Colapinto, Kolohe Andino, Yago Dora, and Ian Crane. That said, the design carries noticeably more volume than previous Driver models, which makes it a viable high-performance tool for any strong, experienced surfer who can drive the rocker and load the rail with intention.
- How do I choose the right size Lost Driver 3 for my weight and surfing?
- Refer to the size chart on this page for the complete Pro Dims series, which lists Width, Thickness, and Volume for every length. Volume is the best starting point: match it to your weight and surf fitness using a volume calculator, then cross-reference against the lengths you typically ride in performance shortboards. If you want personalized guidance, call Island Water Sports at 954-427-4929 or visit us in Deerfield Beach or Pompano Beach.
- What is the Lost Driver 3.0 review record in competition?
- The Driver 3.0 was unveiled at the 2022 Stab In The Dark with Jack Robinson, finishing runner-up. Griffin Colapinto then took it to two World Championship Tour victories during the 2022 season, in Portugal and El Salvador. The round tail variant on this page is replicated directly from Griffin's El Salvador event board. Virtually every ...Lost team rider, from Kolohe Andino and Yago Dora to younger talents like Eli Hanniman and Cole Houshmand, has claimed it as the best board in their quiver.
- What does the Lost Driver 3.0 squash tail version surf like compared to the round tail?
- The squash tail (the original Stab In The Dark shape) provides a wider tail block that pivots quickly and releases easily off the tail. The round tail pulls in slightly at the very end, which adds hold and control in faster, more critical sections, making it the preferred option for hard-pushing competitive pocket surfing. Both tails share the same concave system, rocker, and forward outline. Use the variant selector on this page to choose your tail.
