Virginia Key Beach Park suits families, kids, and paddleboarders looking for a calmer, more spread-out alternative to Miami's busier beaches; the open sandy shoreline also draws kiteboarders. Crowds stay low most days, and the mile-long stretch of bayfront sand and nature trails set it apart from the city beaches nearby.

Parking & Access

The park sits at 4020 Virginia Beach Dr in Miami. Entry is charged per vehicle: 5 dollars Monday through Thursday, 10 dollars Friday through Sunday, and 12 dollars on holidays.

Rules & Safety

Lifeguard coverage here is seasonal, so check for a posted schedule and watch the flags before swimming. Boat traffic offshore is worth watching for too. Pets aren't allowed anywhere in the park; only service animals are permitted. The open sandy stretch also draws kiteboarders, so give that part of the water some room if you're swimming nearby.

What's There

Restrooms, charcoal grills, and picnic pavilions are confirmed on site, and a few patches of shoreline work for snorkeling. Nature and mountain-bike trails wind through the park, and the on-site museum remains under construction, so this is best treated as a beach-and-trails visit for now.

Before You Go

Pompano Beach is our closest store to Virginia Key, about 34.7 miles to the north. It's a solid stop for beach and paddling gear if your trip already has you passing through Broward or Palm Beach.
