The Da Fin Swim Fins Trusted by the World's Best Watermen
DaFiN was born in Hawaii, developed by Andy Cochran, one of Australia's early surfing pioneers, with direct input from world-renowned watermen Mark Cunningham and Brian Keaulana. The result is a fin that delivers the two things that matter most in the water: comfort and power. It is used by professional watermen and waterwomen around the world, and it is the official fin of the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association and the United States Lifesaving Association.
The Signature series celebrates DaFiN's ongoing creative collaboration with Vissla, now in its eighth year. This edition arrives in two colorways: the striking NSLA Ehukai, a deep black blade tipped with bold teal inspired by the iconic North Shore lifeguard association, and the Vissla 8.0, a three-color graphic built from natural rubber in green, blue, and sand. Both carry the embossed Pro Model designation on the blade face.
Da Fin Design: Performance Strakes and Natural Rubber
The core of every DaFiN is its specially designed performance strakes, a series of raised channels molded into the blade that direct water flow for clean, powerful thrust in all ocean conditions. The strakes stiffen the blade exactly where propulsion happens while leaving the tip soft enough to shed drag on the recovery stroke. The result is more forward drive per kick with less fatigue.
The foot pocket is molded from quality natural rubber throughout. It is soft, flexible, and stretches comfortably to accommodate a range of foot widths without requiring a bootie. There is no left or right designation: DaFiN can be worn on either foot, which simplifies your bag and eliminates the scramble at the water's edge. The fins also float in saltwater, so if you lose one in a wipeout it stays on the surface where you can find it.
Who Da Fins Are For: Swimming, Bodysurfing, and Bodyboarding
DaFiN is purpose-built for ocean water activities where you need powerful propulsion without bulk. They are the first choice for bodysurfers who need to catch waves under their own power, and they are equally at home for bodyboarders who want to stay loose in the water between waves. Competitive ocean swimmers and lifeguard athletes use them for sprint training and rescue simulation. The compact blade profile and natural rubber construction also make them lightweight and packable, so they travel well whether you are heading to the North Shore or checking a summer swell in South Florida.
The fins are genuinely unisex and suited to any skill level. If you are new to fins, the soft foot pocket and floating design make them forgiving and easy to use. If you are an experienced bodysurfer or bodyboarder, the strake-driven blade gives you the output you expect from a professional-grade tool.
DaFiN x Vissla Collaboration Colorways
The NSLA Ehukai colorway is a collaboration with the North Shore Lifeguard Association, rendered in the classic black-and-teal color scheme of the Ehukai beach lifeguard stand. The teal blade tip gives it immediate visual identity in the water. The Vissla 8.0 brings a graphic born from Vissla's design language: a three-band split of green, sand, and blue on the blade, referencing the brand's seventh-year colorway heritage and updating it for this edition.
Both colorways share the same Pro Model rubber construction and strake pattern. Color choice is purely personal. Select your colorway and confirm your fin size using the size guide on this page, then use the variant selector to lock in your combination.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I find my DaFiN size?
- DaFiN sizing is based on US Men's shoe size. Measure heel to your longest toe and match it to the size guide on this page. If you wear women's sizes, the chart includes a US Women's column and EU and UK equivalents. When in doubt between two sizes, the soft natural rubber foot pocket stretches, so going slightly smaller gives a more secure fit. If you plan to wear a neoprene bootie inside the fin, size up.
- Are DaFiN swim fins good for bodysurfing?
- Yes. DaFiN was designed in Hawaii with input from Mark Cunningham and Brian Keaulana, two of the most respected names in bodysurfing. The performance strake pattern on the blade delivers efficient thrust with each kick, which is exactly what you need to catch and ride waves under your own power. They are the preferred fin for competitive bodysurfers and have USLA and Hawaiian Lifeguard Association endorsements.
- Can I use DaFiN fins for bodyboarding?
- Absolutely. The DaFiN Signature is listed under bodyboard accessories for good reason: the compact, powerful blade gives you the propulsion to catch waves, and the floating design means you will not lose a fin if it comes off in a wipeout. Many bodyboarders prefer them over longer scuba-style fins because they stay out of the way while you are riding.
- What is the difference between the NSLA Ehukai and Vissla 8.0 colorways?
- Both use the same Pro Model rubber construction and blade design. The NSLA Ehukai is black with a teal blade tip, created in partnership with the North Shore Lifeguard Association and inspired by the Ehukai beach stand. The Vissla 8.0 features a three-color graphic in green, blue, and sand, reflecting the Vissla x DaFiN collaboration colorway for this edition. Performance is identical; color choice is personal. Select your preference in the variant selector on this page.
- Is there a right and left DaFiN fin?
- No. DaFiN fins are ambidextrous and can be worn on either foot. There is no left or right designation, which means you do not have to sort them before paddling out and you have one less thing to lose track of on the beach.
- Do DaFiN fins float?
- Yes. DaFiN fins are designed to float in saltwater. If a fin comes off in a wipeout or gets pulled by a wave, it will stay on the surface where you can retrieve it.
- Are DaFiN fins good for travel?
- Yes. The natural rubber construction keeps them lightweight and the compact blade profile packs flat. They are a popular choice for surfers and bodyboarders who want to travel light without giving up performance in the water.
- Where can I get help choosing the right DaFiN size?
- The size chart on this page covers the full range from XXS through XXL with US Men, US Women, EU, and UK equivalents. If you still have questions, call Island Water Sports at 954-427-4929 and our staff can help you pick the right fit.
