SMTH SHAPES SURFBOARDS

Island Water Sports and Boca Surf and Sail are proud to announce our new inventory of SMTH Shapes. iSMTH Shapes prides itself on innovation and the manufacturing of premium quality surfboards.

At the heart of SMTH is Jordy Smith, a renowned performer in the world of professional surfing and whose vision is to inspire future youth in intelligent surfboard design.

"Jordy Smith was chewing on his dad’s leash at six months, pushing a board around the pool at one year, and wearing a wetsuit through the house at two.

“He was invariably going to end up surfing,” says Jordy’s dad, Graham, who’s been shaping surfboards since the mid-1960s.

As a teenage surfer in South Africa, Graham didn’t have enough money to purchase boards of his own. So he did what any self-sufficient surf rat would do: grabbed old, dilapidated boards from the rafters, cut them to his preferred size, and re-glassed them.“He was invariably going to end up surfing,” says Jordy’s dad, Graham, who’s been shaping surfboards since the mid-1960s.

Jordy enjoyed a great career surfing for JS for almost a decade then moving on to Channel Island for five years. But when a global pandemic happened Jordy moved back home to South Africa.

"Jordy spent most of 2020 in South Africa due to the coronavirus. This was Jordy’s first winter home in nearly two decades, and it just so happened to coincide with South Africa’s best run of surf in collective memory. In other words, Jordy had an unprecedented opportunity to work on his boards. And who better to do it with than his dad, Graham?

“I basically brought all the knowledge I’d learned from all the different shapers that I’ve worked with over the years back to my dad. We started applying little things here and there, and we were getting great results.”

This success inspired Jordy and Graham to go a step further—creating a cohesive board brand that would bring father and son together once and for all. They would call it SMTH Shapes.

Our goal is to make boards for everyday surfers,” Jordy explains. “If an average guy looks at the Tour, how is he going to relate to guys that are mostly 5’8 or 5’9 and 160 pounds? No one I know can relate to riding Kelly’s 5’5. So we’re making boards for real people, who just want to have fun surfing.” - Stab Magazine

SMTH shapes strives for perfection, versatility and great craftsmanship, producing multiple shapes and styles from performance to mid-length boards.

This new company from father and son duo, Graham and Jordy Smith, are stoking us out with their innovative and patented new surf technology - CARBON T-BAR STRINGERS and a new INJECTION TECH which will be coming out of their South African based factory soon.
