The Original Colored Zinc Oxide Sunscreen Stick
Zinka invented the colored zinc oxide face stick, and for over 30 years the brand has been the benchmark for action sports sun protection. The SPF 50+ Colored Face Stick delivers a mineral-only, broad spectrum UVA and UVB shield built to perform in the water, on the sand, and in extreme weather. It goes on bold, stays on hard, and leaves nothing to chance when the sun is at its worst.
20% Zinc Oxide Protection
Zinc oxide is a physical (mineral) UV filter that works by sitting on top of the skin and scattering both UVA and UVB rays rather than absorbing them chemically. At 20% concentration, Zinka's formula delivers one of the highest zinc oxide loads available in an over-the-counter sunscreen. That means maximum protection for exposed skin surfaces like the nose, cheeks, and under-eye area, right where the reflection off water and sand hits hardest.
Water Resistant for 80 Minutes
Formulated to hold up through serious sessions, the stick is water resistant for 80 minutes, the highest water-resistance rating recognized by the FDA. Reapply after toweling off or after any extended time out of the water, as with any sunscreen.
Skin-Friendly, Ocean-Friendly Formula
Zinka built this stick around what it leaves out as much as what it puts in:
- Free from oxybenzone and octinoxate, the chemical UV filters most linked to coral reef damage
- Paraben free
- Oil free
- Reef and eco-friendly by formulation, not just marketing claim
- Vegan and kid safe
In place of those chemicals, the formula is loaded with aloe vera for skin conditioning, plus Vitamin A and Vitamin E as antioxidant support. A light coconut scent rounds out the feel-good factor.
Stick Format for Targeted Coverage
The twist-up stick format gives you precise, mess-free application exactly where you need it. Swipe directly onto the nose bridge, cheekbones, temples, and lips without getting product on your hands. The formula glides on smoothly and sets quickly for a look that is both functional and unmistakably surf-culture. No drips, no waste, no sunscreen in your eyes.
Application and Reapplication
Apply generously to clean, dry skin at least 15 minutes before sun exposure. Cover all exposed facial areas. Reapply at least every 2 hours and immediately after swimming, sweating, or toweling off. For children, adult supervision is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is zinc sunscreen waterproof?
- No sunscreen is truly waterproof. The Zinka SPF 50+ Colored Face Stick is water resistant for 80 minutes, which is the highest rating allowed by the FDA. Reapply after toweling off or after extended water exposure.
- What makes a colored zinc sunscreen stick different from clear sunscreen?
- Colored zinc sticks use tinted zinc oxide that leaves a visible layer of color on the skin. That color is functional, not just cosmetic. It signals that the sunscreen is still on the skin and provides a visual reference for coverage, which is especially useful for noses, lips, and cheekbones that are hardest hit by reflected UV from water and sand.
- Is the Zinka face stick reef safe?
- Yes. The formula is free from oxybenzone and octinoxate, the two chemical UV filters most associated with coral reef damage, and it carries a reef-safe designation. It uses mineral zinc oxide as its only active ingredient.
- Is clear zinc sunscreen as effective as colored zinc sunscreen?
- Effectiveness depends on the concentration of the active ingredient and SPF rating, not on whether the sunscreen is tinted. The Zinka Colored Face Stick uses 20% zinc oxide at SPF 50+, which is a high-performance formulation. The color does not affect the UV protection level.
- Is this sunscreen safe for kids?
- Yes. The Zinka SPF 50+ Colored Face Stick is labeled kid safe, is free from oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens, and uses mineral zinc oxide as its sole active ingredient. Adult supervision is recommended when applying to children.
- How often should I reapply the Zinka face stick?
- Apply at least 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every 2 hours. After swimming, sweating, or toweling off, reapply immediately regardless of how much time has passed.
- Where can I buy the Zinka SPF 50+ Colored Face Stick?
- The Zinka Colored Face Stick is available at Island Water Sports in South Florida and online at islandwatersports.com.
