Three years in the making, the APEX Evolution Trunk by KS represents the second generation of Kelly Slater's most demanding trunk design. Outerknown took the most high-performance trunk ever made and pushed it further, delivering on Kelly's precise requests without compromising a single performance quality.
Built from Recycled Fishing Nets
Outerknown partnered with Bureo to use their NetPlus® material, a recycled nylon sourced directly from reclaimed fishing nets. The result is a trunk with genuine environmental credentials and a fabric that performs at the highest level in and out of the water. The construction is 90% NetPlus Recycled Nylon and 10% Spandex, delivering the stretch and durability a competitive performance trunk demands while giving discarded ocean plastic a second life.
Performance Construction Details
Every design decision in the APEX Evolution Trunk targets performance on the board and unrestricted movement in the water.
- Pitched forward side seams with vents for easier fit on the board and freer paddling motion
- Reinforced ultrasonic-welded seams at the highest-stress points eliminate bulk while maximizing durability
- Engineered side seam taping for a clean, consistent lay against the skin
- Enhanced waistband with soft-touch interior that cinches firmly without bunching
- Better no-slip braided drawcords with a unique rubberized drawstring that locks in place
- Gusseted fly for unrestricted range of motion
- Soft-touch triangles at inner thigh touch points to prevent chafe during extended sessions
The Iconic Back Pocket
The arc and tangent-shaped back pocket is one of the defining details of the APEX line. It features a key loop and eleven laser-cut drainage holes, one for each of Kelly Slater's eleven World Surf League world titles. The pocket carries the iconic OK KS Portal logo in Ocean Blue, alongside Ocean Blue OK Dot and Wordmark branding, marking this as part of Kelly Slater's Signature Collection.
