Built for the Water, Named for the Migration

The Costa Tuna Alley takes its name from a legendary 15-mile stretch of sand cutting through the deep blue Bahamian waters where Bluefin tuna migrate north. Costa engineered these performance fishing sunglasses to reveal exactly what is happening beneath the surface, giving anglers a clear window into the underwater fish highway that made the Tuna Alley famous.

The result is a wraparound sport frame built around two priorities: optical clarity that penetrates glare and water surface reflection, and a construction rugged enough to survive a full day on the water without compromise. These are tools first, sunglasses second.

Frame Construction

The Tuna Alley frame is molded from tough nylon, the same class of material Costa relies on across its performance fishing lineup. Nylon is light, flexible under impact, and resistant to salt, UV exposure, and the general abuse of life on the water. The frame profile is a full wraparound sport shape that blocks peripheral light and wind without restricting field of view.

Integral hinges are built directly into the frame, eliminating the separate hinge hardware that can loosen, corrode, or snag line. This construction keeps the profile low-profile and the hinge point strong across years of daily use.

A patented vent system is cut into the lower frame. The vents break up heat buildup behind the lens and reduce fogging when moving between warm air and cool water, keeping vision clear during the moments that matter most.

The frame carries a Regular fit and is prescription-ready, meaning the frame is compatible with custom Rx lens orders through Costa's prescription program.

580P vs 580G: Choosing Your Lens

The Tuna Alley is offered in two of Costa's core lens technologies. Both are polarized and built on Costa's 580 platform, which filters High Energy Visible (HEV) light in the 380-520nm range to sharpen contrast and reduce eye fatigue over long hours on the water. The difference is the lens material.

Feature 580P (Polycarbonate) 580G (Glass)
Lens material Polycarbonate Optical glass
Weight Lighter Heavier
Optical clarity Excellent Superior (glass benchmark)
Impact resistance Higher Standard
Scratch resistance Good Higher (inherent to glass)
Best for Active fishing, kayak, surf, extended wear Maximum clarity, offshore and flats fishing

580P Reader Variant

The Tuna Alley is also offered with 580P polycarbonate lenses in a +2.50 reader configuration, making it a practical choice for anglers who need reading magnification for knot tying, tackle, and chart reading without giving up polarized sun protection.

Polarized Lens Performance

All Tuna Alley lenses are polarized. Polarization cuts horizontally oriented glare off flat water surfaces, the primary obstacle to seeing into the water column when fishing. Costa's 580 platform goes further by blocking specific wavelengths of blue light that scatter and reduce contrast in bright conditions. The combination makes it significantly easier to spot fish, structure, and bottom composition under varying light and water conditions.
