How It Breaks

Stuart Rocks is a reef break over Anastasia limestone by the historic House of Refuge in Martin County, rated intermediate to advanced. It serves up quality lefts, the standout direction, along with rights, and draws a moderate crowd when the reef is holding shape. This is a rock and reef bottom, not sand, so respect the rocks.

Best Conditions

Best swell is NE, with a W offshore wind and a low, incoming tide, the window to target as the reef starts to cover. Winter NE swell and fall groundswell are the reliable seasons, and it goes flat through most of summer. Hazards are the shallow rock reef itself, urchins, and rip currents, so time your tide and watch your footing.

Parking and Local Tips

Parking is limited free spots at Stuart Beach, and the lot fills fast on a good swell. Local tip: the reef holds shape on a NE swell with W wind, so respect the locals and respect the shallow rock at low tide. If you want a calmer alternative nearby, Bathtub Reef Beach down the road is a snorkel lagoon, not a surf spot, but worth knowing about.
