Built for Performance in Overhead Surf

Dakine started with a single goal: build the best surf leash on the market. The Comp Plus is the direct result of that mission. Engineered for waves up to shoulder high, it balances low drag with the strength you need when a set catches you off guard. Every component is chosen for reliability in the water, not just on a spec sheet.

Dura-Cord and Speed Pockets

The cord is 1/4 inch (6.5mm) Dura-Cord, Dakine's premium urethane construction. Integrated Speed Pockets run along the cord to reduce water resistance and drag as you move through the lineup and on the wave. The result is a leash that stays out of your way when you're surfing and holds firm when you wipe out. Opti-Flex leash ends complete the package, providing maximum flexibility at the connection points to extend the cord's service life and resist cracking under repeated stress.

Ankle Cuff Construction

The 1.5 inch (40mm) ankle cuff is molded neoprene, streamlined to sit close to the ankle without bulk. The exterior uses hydrophobic webbing material that sheds water rather than absorbing it, keeping the cuff light and the closure secure session after session. Closure is handled by Posi-Lock hook and loop, a positive-engagement system that locks the cuff in place and does not loosen as the neoprene flexes.

Railsaver and Swivels

A 1 inch (25mm) railsaver is included and detachable, protecting your board's rail at the leash plug attachment point. Both swivels are 100% marine grade stainless steel, which resists saltwater corrosion over an extended lifespan. The swivel placement reduces cord twist during surfing so the leash does not coil around your leg mid-session.

Why the Comp Plus

The Comp Plus sits in Dakine's lineup as the go-to leash for everyday performance surfing. It is suited to surfers who want a competition-grade cord without sacrificing comfort at the ankle cuff. The hydrophobic exterior, molded cuff, and Speed Pocket cord make it a strong choice for regular use in South Florida beach breaks and beyond. Pick it up in store at Island Water Sports or order online.

Frequently Asked Questions
What wave size is the Dakine Comp Plus Leash designed for?
The Comp Plus is designed for surf up to shoulder high. It is built for everyday performance surfing in beach break conditions and is not intended for large, heavy surf where a thicker, heavier leash would be more appropriate.
What are Speed Pockets on a surf leash?
Speed Pockets are channels or recesses molded along the urethane Dura-Cord. They reduce surface drag as the leash moves through water, which helps keep the cord from pulling at your ankle while you paddle and surf.
What does Opti-Flex mean on the Dakine Comp Plus?
Opti-Flex refers to Dakine's design for the molded leash ends, the connection pieces between the cord and the cuff or railsaver. They are built to flex with the leash under load rather than resisting it, which extends durability and helps prevent cracking at high-stress points.
What is Posi-Lock closure on the ankle cuff?
Posi-Lock is Dakine's hook and loop closure system designed to engage securely and stay locked even as the neoprene cuff flexes during surfing. It provides a more reliable hold than standard hook and loop closures under repeated wave impact.
Why does the ankle cuff use hydrophobic webbing?
Hydrophobic webbing repels water instead of absorbing it. This keeps the ankle cuff and railsaver lighter during a session and reduces wear over time since waterlogged webbing degrades faster with repeated saltwater exposure.
Is the Dakine Comp Plus Leash a good leash for surf leash dakine searches?
The Comp Plus is one of Dakine's core performance leashes, combining Dura-Cord, Speed Pockets, marine grade stainless steel swivels, and a hydrophobic molded cuff. It is a strong all-around pick for performance surfing.
