Back Where It All Began
Did you know Island Water Sports actually started in Pompano Beach? Before we ever opened our doors in Deerfield, we were right here—on US1 and Atlantic Boulevard —way back in the late '70s.
In fact, it wasn’t even called IWS at first. Owner, Cheyne Cottrell, recently shared the story on Instagram:
That’s right—Island Water Sports was born in Pompano Beach, and now, 46 years later, we’re coming home with our new store location.
A Full-Circle Moment for IWS
After more than a decade of searching for the perfect spot, we finally found it. And when we say it’s a dream location, we mean it—right on A1A, just steps from the Pompano Beach Pier at:

We signed the lease on a Monday, started moving in Tuesday, and by the weekend we were open for business. That lightning-fast turnaround was only possible thanks to our absolutely amazing crew—the IWS fam who continue to pour their hearts into everything we do.
The energy from the local community has already been incredible. From old-school customers with stories from the OG days to new friends stopping by to rent a board—we’re feeling the love, and it means the world to us.
What’s New at the Surf Shop in Pompano Beach
If you’re wondering what you’ll find at our new surf shop in Pompano Beach, here’s a quick peek:

- Surf and paddle board rentals are set up right near the beach
- Expert staff (and good vibes) ready to help you ride your next wave

We’re open every day from 8 AM to 8 PM, and we’re loving our new neighborhood—including our awesome friends at @how_ya_brewing just down the block. ☕🌊
