KANE makes one shoe really well, the Revive, and we now carry it in men's, women's and kids' sizes. It was built for athletes coming off a hard session. We think it makes even more sense for people coming out of the ocean, and this guide explains why, along with how to size it, which is where most people go wrong.
The ten second answer
The KANE Revive is a slip-on recovery shoe made in Brazil from sugarcane-based EVA foam by KANE Footwear, a Westport, Connecticut brand founded in 2021 by former pro lacrosse player John Gagliardi. It is one unisex shoe, sold in whole sizes only, and the women's size is always two above the men's, so a women's 7 is a men's 5. The foam is closed-cell and doesn't absorb water. Island Water Sports stocks the Revive at $80 in men's 8 to 13 and women's 5 to 8, in White/Black Speckle and Moon Gray/Navy Speckle, and the Revive Kids at $60 in J1 and J2, all at the Deerfield Beach store. Keep them out of a hot car, because heat can shrink them.
What is a recovery shoe, and what does the Revive actually do?

A recovery shoe is what you put on after the workout, not during it. The idea is a shoe with more cushion and support than a flip flop, that you can step into without laces.
Here is what KANE says the Revive does, in their words:
- Raised nodes on the footbed "activate blood flow and pressure points".
- A dual density construction gives cushioning and support.
- A 10mm heel to toe drop and a heel cup hold the foot.
- Perforations in the upper and channels inside it move air.
- Siped soles give flex and grip.
KANE credits sports podiatrist Dr. Daniel Geller as a co-developer.
Two caveats. First, KANE describes the Revive as helping your body recover faster, but they don't cite a study, so treat that as the brand's claim rather than a proven effect. Second, independent reviewers are mixed on the arch: Run to the Finish found the support "a little underwhelming", and WearTesters rated it fine for "lighter gym work but not explosive movements". It is not a running shoe, and KANE doesn't sell it as one.
Why a surf shop carries a recovery shoe
The Revive is made from closed-cell foam that doesn't soak anything up. KANE's own advice is to rinse sand and saltwater off and let the shoes air dry, which is exactly what a beach shoe needs. Unlike a slide, it covers your toes, so it works for the walk back over hot sand or a rough parking lot.
KANE has more surf in its story than its website lets on:
- In 2024 it made a collaboration Revive with Kauai pro surfer Brianna Cope, with part of the sales going to the Changing Tides Foundation.
- Since 2025 it has been an official partner of the Surfrider Foundation.
- Its Project Renew program turns worn out Revives and old wetsuits into yoga and changing mats.
What size KANE should I get?
Men's and women's are the same shoe
KANE builds the Revive on one unisex last and prints both sizes on it. We list it twice, as men's and women's, but it is one shoe, and the women's number is always two higher than the men's.
So if you wear a women's 9 or 10, don't stop at our women's listing because it ends at 8. Go to the men's listing: a men's 8 is a women's 10.
| Our listing | Men's size | Women's size |
|---|---|---|
| Women's 5 | 3 | 5 |
| Women's 6 | 4 | 6 |
| Women's 7 | 5 | 7 |
| Women's 8 | 6 | 8 |
| Men's 8 | 8 | 10 |
| Men's 9 | 9 | 11 |
| Men's 10 | 10 | 12 |
| Men's 11 | 11 | 13 |
| Men's 12 | 12 | 14 |
| Men's 13 | 13 | 15 |
We don't stock a men's 7 (women's 9) at the moment, so if that's your size, call the shop before you order.
There are no half sizes
KANE only makes whole sizes. Their advice if you're normally a half:
- With a narrow foot, go down. A 10.5 becomes a 10.
- With a wide foot, go up. A 10.5 becomes an 11.
How wide are they?
KANE lists the widths as:
- Men's 8 to 14: D, a standard men's width.
- Men's 15 to 18: D+.
- Women's 5 to 9: B+, a touch roomier than a standard women's B.
Do KANE shoes run big or small?
KANE says they follow standard running shoe sizing. Reviewers don't fully agree. WearTesters found them mostly true to size, with one tester going up half a size for toe room. Run to the Finish found them a bit large. The honest answer is to start with your running shoe size, and use the narrow or wide rule above if you're between sizes.
Kids sizes: J1 and J2

The Revive Kids is the same design, scaled down. We carry the two biggest kids sizes. By KANE's chart:
- J1 fits a foot of about 8.1 inches (20.7 cm).
- J2 fits a foot of about 8.5 inches (21.5 cm).
Measure heel to longest toe with them standing up.
KANE says kids at a junior 3 and up should move to adult sizes. The smallest adult pair we stock is the women's 5, which is a men's 3, so that is the next step after a J2.
Are KANE shoes waterproof?
The foam is closed-cell, so it doesn't absorb water, and KANE says the shoes work as well in the water as on land and dry quickly. The perforations mean water comes straight in over the top, so they're not waterproof in the way a boot is, and they're not meant to be.
One caution. The Revive is not certified slip resistant. KANE only certifies its separate Revive AC model for that. KANE says the sole grips on wet tile, like a beach shower floor. We still wouldn't trust any shoe on a slick dock or boat deck.
Are KANE shoes good for plantar fasciitis?
KANE says the Revive's raised heel, arch support and heel cup take stress off the Achilles and the arch, and that it suits flat feet and high arches. That is the brand's claim. Some reviewers with sore feet report that they're comfortable, but that is anecdote, not evidence. We're a surf shop, not a clinic, though. If your heel hurts every morning, see a podiatrist before you buy any shoe to fix it.
KANE vs OOFOS and other recovery slides
We don't stock OOFOS or Hoka recovery footwear, so this is a secondhand comparison, not ours. The runners' blog The Mother Runners tested them side by side. They found the KANE firmer ("not really squishy") than OOFOS, and noted it covers the toes where a slide doesn't. If you want something soft to shuffle around the house in, a slide may suit you better. If you want something you can walk a distance in, or wear on sand and gravel, the Revive's closed shape is the reason to pick it.
If what you really want is an open sandal for the beach, we have a whole wall of them: men's sandals and women's sandals. Our Rainbow Sandals guide covers the leather option.
Keep them out of a hot car
This one matters more in South Florida than almost anywhere. KANE's care instructions warn that extreme heat or sun can shrink or warp the foam, and they list hot cars, dryers, dishwashers and hot machine washes as the main causes.
So don't leave them on the dashboard, in the trunk, or on the back seat on a July afternoon.
To clean them, wipe or wash them with soap and water, or put them in the washing machine on cold only. KANE says the closed-cell foam resists odor and bacteria even without an antimicrobial lining.
