How It Breaks
Cocoa Beach Pier is a pier break over sandbars on either side of the pilings, the wave Kelly Slater grew up on and still Brevard's most famous stretch of sand. It's rated all levels, genuinely beginner-friendly, with gentle, forgiving peaks that build on either side of the pier. The tradeoff is company: crowd here runs high, and it can feel a little zoo-like on any real swell, so mind your etiquette around the pilings.
Best Conditions
The pier wants a NE to E swell paired with W or SW offshore wind, and unlike a lot of Brevard's beach breaks, Cocoa Beach Pier peaks on a high tide. Winter NE windswell is the bread and butter season, with fall hurricane swells adding a second window. Watch for rip currents, boat and SUP or longboard traffic in the lineup, and the pilings themselves, which are the pier's main hazard alongside the crowd.
