Ready to Roll From Day One
The Impala Lightspeed Inline Skate is built for skaters who want to get moving without a lengthy setup or painful break-in period. A rigid plastic outer boot holds its shape session after session, while the plush padded liner wraps your foot from the first skate. Whether you are returning to the pavement after years away or rolling for the first time, this skate gives you the control and comfort to build confidence fast.
Boot Construction and Fit System
The durable plastic outer shell keeps the boot stiff enough for edging and maneuvering without the weight of a traditional aggressive skate. Closure is handled by a combination lace and buckle system: laces lock in the forefoot while a quick-release buckle cinches the ankle cuff for a precise, secure hold. A pull loop at the top cuff makes entry easy. The padded inner liner conforms to the foot and reduces hot spots on longer sessions.
Wheels, Bearings, and Frame
Four 70mm 80A wheels deliver a smooth, responsive ride on most recreational surfaces. The 80A durometer hits the sweet spot between grip and roll speed, making these skates equally at home on bike paths, plazas, and smooth pavement. The frame also accepts 72mm wheels if you want to experiment with a slightly taller setup. ABEC-7 precision bearings provide an efficient, low-vibration roll that outperforms entry-level ABEC-5 setups and still holds up to everyday recreational use.
Wheel alignment ships straight from the factory but can be adjusted to a rockered configuration using the two included Allen wrenches. Rockering raises the middle wheels slightly to create a more agile, curved-feel ride, a useful tweak for skaters who want tighter turns or a more playful feel underfoot.
Heel Brake
An optional heel brake mounts to the rear of the frame and is fully removable. Beginners benefit from keeping it installed while learning to stop; more experienced skaters who prefer T-stops or other techniques can pull it off in seconds with one of the included Allen wrenches. No separate tools required.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are Impala inline skates good for beginners?
- Yes. The Impala Lightspeed is specifically designed to work for beginners. There is no break-in period, the buckle-lace closure provides a stable and adjustable fit, and the included removable heel brake gives new skaters a reliable stopping option while they build technique. The 70mm 80A wheels and ABEC-7 bearings produce a smooth, predictable roll that does not demand advanced footwork to control.
- Can the wheel alignment be changed to rockered?
- Yes. The Lightspeed ships with straight wheel alignment but the frame can be adjusted to a rockered setup using the two Allen wrenches included with the skate. Rockering raises the middle wheels to create a more curved ride profile, which increases agility and makes the skate feel more responsive in turns.
- Is the heel brake removable?
- Yes. The heel brake is optional and fully removable. It attaches to the rear of the frame and can be taken off with one of the included Allen wrenches. Skaters who use alternative stopping techniques often remove it for a cleaner frame profile.
- What bearings do the Impala Lightspeed skates use?
- The Lightspeed uses ABEC-7 rated bearings. ABEC-7 offers a meaningful improvement over the ABEC-5 bearings found in most budget skates, providing a smoother, more efficient roll and better durability under regular recreational use.
- What size wheels come on the Impala Lightspeed and can they be replaced?
- The skate ships with 70mm 80A wheels. The frame is compatible with 72mm wheels as well, giving you flexibility to upgrade or replace with a slightly larger wheel if preferred. Standard inline wheel maintenance applies: wheels can be rotated or replaced as they wear.
- Are the Impala Lightspeed skates true to size?
- Impala skates generally follow standard US sizing. Check the variant picker on this page for the sizes currently offered. If you are between sizes, most skaters find sizing up by half a size works well with the padded liner, but individual fit can vary.
