Built to Last, Made to Give Back

The Summer of 67 Eco carries the same square silhouette that defines the 67 series, sized slightly larger than the Class of 67 for a bolder presence on the face. Every detail, from the lens material to the frame compound, is chosen with purpose: optical clarity, structural durability, and a genuinely lighter footprint on the planet.

Mineral Glass Lenses

Otis uses mineral glass in every one of their sunglasses, and the Summer of 67 Eco is no exception. Mineral glass is formed from natural raw materials including sand and soda ash. Its inherent hardness makes it far more scratch-resistant than polycarbonate and it introduces zero optical distortion, so what you see through these lenses is true color, true depth, and true contrast.

All Otis fixed-tint lenses block 100% of harmful UVA, UVB, and HEV (high-energy visible) light. That full-spectrum block reduces the risk of solar-related eye damage including intraocular melanoma and macular degeneration, cuts eye fatigue during long days on the water, and preserves accurate color perception. The lenses are also polarized, eliminating the horizontal glare that bounces off flat water, wet pavement, and sand.

The lens is ground to a 4-base curve, a relatively flat front curvature that suits the straight-forward square frame geometry and keeps optics centered and consistent across the lens area.

Eco-Acetate Frame

The frame is made from Otis Eco-Acetate, a plant-derived alternative to petroleum-based plastics. The material is sourced from cotton seeds and plant matter, making it a renewable input rather than a finite one. Once the frame reaches end of life, it is 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable, fully compliant with ISO1870 standards verified at independent laboratories.

Beyond its environmental credentials, Eco-Acetate carries all the aesthetic and tactile qualities of traditional acetate. The material is warm and silky to handle, holds rich depth and finish across every colorway, and maintains its shape under the daily stress of wear. The frame dimensions are 50-21.5-145 mm (lens width - bridge - temple length).

Vissottica Hinges

The temples are connected through Vissottica barrel hinges, available in 3, 5, and 7 barrel configurations. Vissottica is a premium Italian hardware brand built for longevity. All screws are stainless steel, and the hinges carry 100% corrosion resistance, a practical requirement for eyewear worn around salt water and humidity.

About Otis Eyewear

Otis was founded in 2000 on the West Australian coast, where surf, sun, and serious UV exposure are daily realities. The brand built its reputation on one commitment: mineral glass lenses, always, in every frame. No polycarbonate option, no compromise on optics. That same discipline now extends to the material choices in their frames, with Eco-Acetate replacing conventional plastics across the lineup.

The Summer of 67 Eco is available in store and online at Island Water Sports in South Florida.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Otis Summer of 67 sunglasses polarized?
Yes. The Summer of 67 Eco features polarized mineral glass lenses that eliminate horizontal glare reflected off water, sand, and wet surfaces.
What makes Otis mineral glass lenses different from polycarbonate?
Mineral glass is formed from natural elements including sand and soda ash. It is significantly more scratch-resistant than polycarbonate and introduces zero optical distortion, preserving true color and depth perception. Otis uses mineral glass across their entire range by design.
What UV protection do the Otis Summer of 67 lenses provide?
All Otis fixed-tint lenses, including those in the Summer of 67 Eco, block 100% of UVA, UVB, and HEV (high-energy visible) light. This helps guard against intraocular melanoma, macular degeneration, and eye fatigue from prolonged sun exposure.
What does Eco-Acetate mean and why does it matter?
Eco-Acetate is a plant-derived frame material made from cotton seeds and plant matter rather than petroleum. It is 100% recyclable and 100% biodegradable, certified to ISO1870, and carries the same warm, silky feel and visual depth as traditional acetate without the environmental cost.
How durable are the hinges on Otis sunglasses?
Otis frames use premium Vissottica barrel hinges with stainless steel screws and 100% corrosion resistance. These are the same hinge specifications used across performance eyewear designed for coastal and surf environments.
How does the Summer of 67 Eco fit compared to other Otis 67 frames?
The Summer of 67 Eco is slightly larger than the Class of 67, giving it a bolder fit. The frame measures 50-21.5-145 mm (lens width, bridge, and temple length respectively).
