Built for the Water, Worn for Life

The Costa Cape is a full-coverage wrap sport frame designed to stay on your face when conditions get serious. Large lenses maximize your field of view on the water, and the structured frame keeps everything locked in place whether you are on the deck of a boat, paddling, or moving fast in bright South Florida sun. The Costa logo medallion sits at the hinge, a quiet signal that these are built to a standard most sport sunglasses do not reach.

Costa 580P Polarized Lens Technology

The Cape ships with Costa's 580P lens, the polycarbonate version of Costa's flagship 580 optical system. The 580 designation refers to the wavelength filtering approach Costa engineered: the lenses block the specific band of harsh yellow light at 580nm that causes eye strain on the water, while transmitting reds and greens more clearly than conventional polarized lenses. The result is sharper, higher-contrast vision in the conditions where it matters most.

580P lenses are impact-resistant and 25% lighter than glass, making them the right choice for active use. All 580P lenses are 100% polarized, blocking reflected glare off water, wet roads, and sand, and they provide 100% UV protection (UV400).

Frame Construction

The Cape frame is built from co-injected nylon, the same material Costa uses across its performance sport lineup. Co-injected nylon resists warping in heat, holds its shape under pressure, and does not corrode around salt water. Vented temples reduce fogging and improve airflow during high-output activity. The fit is secure and sport-forward without being uncomfortable for extended wear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Costa Cape sunglasses polarized?
Yes. The Cape comes with Costa's 580P lenses, which are 100% polarized to block reflected glare off water, sand, and wet surfaces.
What does 580P mean on Costa sunglasses?
580P refers to Costa's polycarbonate lens system that filters the harsh yellow band of light at 580nm, the wavelength most responsible for eye strain on bright water. It delivers higher contrast and sharper color versus standard polarized lenses, at a lighter weight than Costa's glass (580G) option.
What is the most popular Costa sunglasses style?
Costa offers a wide range, but the wrap sport frames like the Cape are consistently popular with anglers and water sports enthusiasts who need full coverage and glare protection. The Cape's large lens and secure fit make it a go-to for active on-water use.
Can you customize Costa sunglasses?
Costa offers a custom program (Costa Custom) through their own channels. At Island Water Sports we carry stock configurations. Contact us at 954-427-4929 to discuss available options.
Where is Costa Del Mar located?
Costa Del Mar is an American sunglasses brand headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida. They specialize in polarized performance eyewear built specifically for fishing and water sports.
What is the difference between Costa 580P and 580G lenses?
Both use Costa's 580 wavelength-filtering optical system. 580P lenses are polycarbonate: lighter and more impact-resistant, making them ideal for active sport use. 580G lenses are glass: optically sharper with better scratch resistance, preferred by anglers who want the clearest possible view. The Cape uses 580P.
Are Costa Cape sunglasses good for fishing and water sports?
Yes. The Cape was designed for on-water use. The wrap frame blocks peripheral light and wind, the 580P polarized lens cuts water glare, and the co-injected nylon construction holds up to salt, heat, and constant movement.
