Built for the Water, Engineered to Stay There

The Costa Del Mar Blackfin is one of Costa's most trusted fishing and watersport frames, refined with a suite of performance details that keep you locked in from first cast to last light. The full-plastic frame wraps close to the face with a sporty, angular profile visible in the image above, and every component is designed to handle sweat, spray, and all-day sun without slipping or fogging your field of view.

580G Glass Lens Technology

Every Blackfin in this listing is equipped with Costa's 580G lens, which uses optically pure glass ground to Costa's proprietary 580 specification. The 580 filter blocks the high-energy visible light wavelengths (380, 450, and 500 nanometers) that cause eye fatigue and wash out contrast on the water, while transmitting wavelengths that sharpen reds, greens, and blues. Glass is heavier than polycarbonate but delivers superior scratch resistance and the clearest optical quality Costa makes. The result on the water is a crisper view of structure beneath the surface and reduced glare off chop.

All 580G lenses are polarized and provide 100% UV protection.

Angler-Approved Frame Details

The Blackfin frame is purpose-built for extended time on the water. Key engineering features include:

  • Vented, fully adjustable nose pad for a custom fit that does not shift under sweat or humidity
  • Sweat channels built into the frame to direct moisture away from the lens surface and keep vision clear
  • Eyewire drains that let water escape rather than pool and blur your view
  • Side shields and hooding that reduce peripheral glare from low sun angles
  • Hydrolite temple tips that become stickier when wet, gripping your head more securely the harder you work
  • Metal keeper slots on the temples to accept a retainer cord, so the frame stays with you on rough water or in a wave

Together these features solve the real problems that end a day on the water early: fogged lenses, slipping frames, and peripheral glare that kills depth perception.

Frame Construction

The frame is plastic (nylon-based), which keeps the overall package lightweight and impact-resistant. The lens dimensions are 60 mm wide by 41 mm tall, offering broad coverage without an oversized feel. The profile is medium-wrap, enough to block wind and light from the sides while staying comfortable under a hat brim.

Lens Care and Replacement

580G glass lenses are highly scratch resistant but not scratch-proof. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater exposure and store in the included hard case. Replacement lenses are available through Costa's website and authorized retailers, including Island Water Sports, using the Blackfin lens specification. The adjustable nose pad is also a field-replaceable part available through Costa's service program.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Costa Blackfin sunglasses polarized?
Yes. Every Blackfin 580G lens is polarized. The polarized filter eliminates horizontal glare reflected off water surfaces, which sharpens contrast and makes it easier to see structure and fish beneath the surface.
What is the difference between Costa 580G and 580P lenses?
580G uses optically pure glass, which provides superior scratch resistance and the clearest optical performance Costa offers but is slightly heavier. 580P uses polycarbonate, which is lighter and more impact-resistant but less scratch-resistant than glass. The Blackfin in this listing uses 580G.
Are replacement lenses available for the Costa Blackfin?
Yes. Costa offers replacement lenses for the Blackfin frame. You can order them through Island Water Sports in store and online, or directly through Costa's service program. Make sure to specify the Blackfin lens fit when ordering.
Can I replace the nose piece on the Costa Blackfin?
Yes. The Blackfin features a vented, adjustable nose pad that is a field-replaceable part. Replacement nose pieces are available through Costa's customer service or authorized retailers.
How do I care for Costa 580G glass lenses?
Rinse with fresh water after saltwater or sweat exposure. Dry with a microfiber cloth. Avoid placing lenses face-down on hard surfaces. Store in the included hard case when not in use. Glass lenses are highly scratch resistant but not indestructible, so avoid contact with abrasive materials.
Is the Costa Blackfin good for fishing?
Yes. The Blackfin was designed specifically for anglers. It features polarized 580G lenses that cut water glare, sweat channels and eyewire drains to keep vision clear, side shields to block peripheral glare, Hydrolite temple tips that grip better when wet, and metal keeper slots to attach a retainer cord so the frame stays on in rough conditions.
